SEO for small business owners who don't have time for SEO

A short, practical guide to the four SEO moves that matter most when you're already running everything else.

You don't have time to read 14,000 words on SEO. You also can't ignore it. Here are the four moves that matter most when you're already running everything else.

1. Own your local pack

If you serve a geography, your Google Business Profile is more valuable than your website's homepage. Claim it, fill in everything, add 20+ photos, and ask happy customers for reviews. The local pack is the highest-converting SEO surface on the internet.

2. Build one page per intent

One service, one page. One city, one page. One question, one page. Stuffing five intents on a single homepage is the most common reason small business sites can't rank — there's nothing for Google to match against.

3. Write the page like a person

A 600-word page that actually answers the question beats a 3,000-word SEO-padded essay. Use the keyword in the title, the H1, the first 100 words, and one image alt. Then stop.

4. Earn three good links a year

Industry partners, local press, vendor pages — three legitimate backlinks per year will outperform any 'link package' you can buy. Quality is not optional.
